The Ramsey Fine
Arts Council presented the 13th Annual Young People’s Concert.
Ramsey Fine Arts Council (RFAC) presented the thirteenth annual Young
Peoples’ Concert by The Ramsey Wind Symphony (RWS) on Sunday March 20th at
Smith School. About 300 people attended this year’s event. The concert
opened with Conductor Peter Del Vecchio leading the orchestra in the theme
song from Spongebob Squarepants, including participation from all
the children in the audience. Next, the RWS played Disney at the
Movies, which included portions of favorite Disney movies. During the
program, the audience was introduced to the structure and form of music
including melody, harmony and rhythm. Each group of instruments played
independently to demonstrate their contribution to a piece of music. The
children then had a unique opportunity to sit with their favorite
instruments to experience the symphonic sound first hand.
Before the end of the program, there was an auction of the conductor's
baton. Benjamin Berman, a fifth grader from Mahwah, had the winning bid
of $150, which came out of his own savings. As the winner, Benjamin
conducted The Ramsey Wind Symphony in The Stars and Stripes Forever
by John Philip Sousa. The proceeds from the auction will be applied to an
annual scholarship presented to a Ramsey High School senior.
