Annual Young People’s Concert
The
Ramsey Fine Arts Council, in partnership with The Conservatory School of
Music, presented the fourteenth annual Young Peoples’ Concert by The Ramsey
Wind Symphony (RWS) and Don Bosco Preparatory High School Band. The Ramapo
Ridge Middle School Select Chorus and Chamber Singers from Mahwah also
performed.
Over 800 people attended this year's event.
The
concert opened with the Don Bosco Preparatory Concert Band, led by Conductor
Joseph Valeri, performing music by Mozart. Next, the Ramsey Wind Symphony,
led by Conductor Peter Del Vecchio, took the stage and played music by
Bach. Each section of instruments played independently to demonstrate their
contribution to the piece of music. Later in the program, the children were
invited onto the stage to sit with their favorite instruments and experience
the symphonic sound first hand.
The
program continued with the Ramapo Ridge Middle School Select Chorus and
Chamber Singers showcasing a wide range of talent including music by Mozart
and an arrangement from Hairspray. Before the end of the program,
there was an auction of the conductor's baton to benefit the Ramsey High
School scholarship fund. The program ended with the winner of the auction
conducting the Ramsey Wind Symphony's performance of The Stars and
Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa.
